How to Check a Doctor's BMDC Registration in Bangladesh
A doctor's BMDC registration number is the one claim about them you can check for yourself. It takes a minute, and it is worth doing before you see anybody new.
What the BMDC is
The Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC) is the statutory body that registers doctors and dentists in Bangladesh. A doctor needs a valid BMDC registration to practise here.
What a registration number looks like
The council keeps two registers. Doctors with an MBBS degree hold a number starting with A, for example A-12345. Dental surgeons with a BDS degree hold a number starting with B.
So the letter tells you which register to look in: a dentist's number starting with A, or a physician's starting with B, is worth a second look.
Where to find it
It is usually printed on the doctor's prescription pad and is often displayed at the chamber. On BestDoctor BD, every profile shows it next to the doctor's name.
How to check it yourself
- Open the BMDC's doctor lookup on its website, verify.bmdc.org.bd.
- Search for the registration number.
- Check that the name and the qualifications the register shows match the doctor you are about to see.
What our verified mark means
A green "BMDC verified" mark on a BestDoctor BD profile means our team has checked that number against the council register. It means that, and nothing more.
It says nothing about how good a doctor is. We do not rate or rank doctors, because we do not see consultations and have no honest basis for a score.
If something does not match
If a profile has no number, or the register shows a different name, do not rely on the profile. Tell us on WhatsApp or by phone, using the numbers at the foot of every page, and we will look into it.
